Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna star in the much-anticipated horror-romance film Thamma, which has ignited the box office, crossing the ₹50 crore mark in a matter of a few days of release. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and bankrolled by Maddock Films, the film was released in theaters on October 21, 2025, the Diwali weekend. In spite of experiencing piracy problems shortly after its release, Thamma remains attracting crowds in huge numbers, emerging as one of the season’s biggest box office hits.
Part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), Thamma has a star-studded ensemble cast in Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal. The genre-bending blend of horror, romance, and the supernatural in the film has resonated well with audiences and infused a new excitement into the genre. Promoted as a “bloody love story,” the film is a dark yet emotional exploration of romance and mystery blended into a new format never seen before in Bollywood.
Thamma Box Office collected a whopping ₹24 crore on Day 1 and kept its run through the long weekend. On Day 4, its domestic box office had surpassed ₹65 crore, with worldwide collections approaching the ₹93 crore mark. The movie has already emerged as one of Ayushmann Khurrana’s biggest-grossing films, overtaking many of his earlier successes like Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.
But success has not been easy. According to reports, the film was victimized by piracy just days after it opened in theaters, which affected its box office potential. Still, trade insiders forecast that Thamma will go on to do well because of strong word-of-mouth and repeat business.
Ayushmann Khurrana, in celebration of the success of the film, posted a touching note on social media, describing the response to the film as “a beautiful divine light.” He also thanked veteran actor Paresh Rawal, calling him his “guardian angel,” comparing Rawal’s character with that of his late father.
Thamma’s success emboldens the increasing popularity of the MHCU, with fans becoming more interested in genre-defying narratives that blend comedy, horror, and drama. The OTT release of the film is already locked in at Amazon Prime Video, where it will debut on December 16, 2025, after an early access rental window beginning December 2.
Along with Thamma, Ayushmann Khurrana reiterates his versatility, and Rashmika Mandanna dazzles in a character that exudes fear, love, and strength—making the film one fun entertainer to watch out for this festive season.
