Bihar Election

The political heat in Bihar Election is escalating fast with the approach of the 2025 Assembly elections. With polls on November 6 and 11 and counting on November 14, bigwigs in the political arena have launched their campaigns with power-packed statements, incendiary offers, and fresh alliances.

The governing National Democratic Alliance (NDA), dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United), has sealed its seat-sharing pact. Both parties are to contest 101 seats, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will contest 29 seats, and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) will contest six seats.

The BJP has also announced its first list of 71 contestants, which includes Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sinha and Samrat Chaudhary, who will be contesting from Lakhisarai and Tarapur, respectively. Some top leaders, for example, Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, have been omitted this time to provide an opportunity to fresh faces like Patna Sahib’s Ratnesh Kushwaha.

In a significant turn of events, folk singer Maithili Thakur became a member of the BJP, making a political debut. Divya Gautam, Sushant Singh Rajput’s cousin, is another contender, who is standing from Digha as a CPI(ML) candidate of the INDIA bloc.

In the opposition camp, Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD and INDIA coalition’s face, has promised to provide “one government job per family” if elected to power. But his campaign is beset by allegations of corruption, which the NDA intends to turn into a key central poll plank.

As another level of the political battle, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has floated its first list of 51 candidates. Kishor’s campaign is centered around anti-corruption, jobs for youth, and transparent governance—as a third option to Bihar’s old power groups.

While the NDA intends to project stability and growth, the INDIA bloc relies on jobs and social justice, and Jan Suraaj has merit-based politics. As the alliances consolidate and the candidates take to the roads, Bihar’s political battlefield is about to witness a high-voltage contest that can decide the political destiny of the state.
