In a grand show of patriotism and pride, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Diwali 2025 with the courageous personnel of the Indian Navy on board INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. The celebration added to not just the nation’s festive mood but also India’s unmatched maritime strength, discipline, and commitment.
As diyas and festival lights lit up the deck of the giant warship, PM Modi sent warm Diwali wishes to naval sailors and officers on board ships at sea, terming them the “guardians of India’s maritime frontiers and national pride.” He underscored that the festival of lights represents victory, perseverance, and self-reliance — sentiments that are deep-seated in the country’s armed forces.
A Diwali Among Heroes
Donning traditional attire and along with the men and women in uniform, PM Modi kindled ceremonial lamps on board INS Vikrant, embodying unity and strength. He also greeted the crew members, praising their courage, dedication, and round-the-clock vigilance in guarding India’s sovereignty. The Prime Minister also shared festive sweets and expressed gratitude to the naval officers who remain away from home during festivals so that security of the nation could be ensured.
During the address to the assemblage, PM Modi had the following to say:
“When 140 crore Indians rejoice on Diwali, it’s because of your strength and sacrifice. Diwali light is brighter due to the courage of our sailors and soldiers.”
INS Vikrant — A Benchmark of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’
The event also highlighted INS Vikrant as a beaming example of India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) program. Conceived and constructed in India by the Cochin Shipyard, INS Vikrant symbolizes India’s enhancing capabilities and defense development. The carrier has sophisticated radar systems, fighter jets, and cutting-edge defense systems, turning it into one of Asia’s strongest ships.
The ship’s glorious presence at the Diwali celebration conveyed a loud message to the world — that India is a peace-loving as well as powerful maritime nation.
Diwali with the Armed Forces — A Continuing Tradition
This marks another year in PM Modi’s tradition of celebrating Diwali with India’s defense forces. Since taking office, he has celebrated the festival with soldiers in Siachen, Kargil, and Arunachal Pradesh, reaffirming his commitment to honoring the men and women who protect the nation. His 2025 celebration aboard INS Vikrant was both emotional and symbolic, bridging tradition, technology, and national pride.
As the waves echoed the light of thousands of diyas, the message from INS Vikrant was clear — India’s power is in its oneness, strength, and the unbreakable spirit of its defenders.
